Python Developer Resume and Interview Guide: Skills to Show
Python covers web backends, data work and automation. Make clear which of those you have done and with what tools.
Skills hiring teams look for
List the ones you have genuinely used, and put the most relevant to the job first.
- Python 3
- FastAPI, Django or Flask
- REST APIs
- SQL and PostgreSQL
- pytest and testing
- Celery or task queues
- Pandas and data processing
- Docker
- AWS or Azure basics
- Git and CI/CD
How to write your experience
- Say whether your Python is web services, data pipelines, scripting or machine learning, and list the matching libraries.
- Show production habits: tests, type hints, packaging, monitoring.
- For data roles, describe data size, sources and what the output was used for.
Interview topics to prepare
- Generators, decorators and context managers
- The GIL and when threading, multiprocessing or asyncio fit
- Designing a REST API with FastAPI or Django
- Database access patterns and migrations
- Testing with fixtures and mocks
- Writing clear, maintainable code
Tailor it to each posting
Read the job description, find the required skills, and make sure each one you genuinely have is easy to find in your summary, skills and recent bullets. Do not add skills you have not used. See the guide: how to tailor your resume to a job description, and the ATS resume checklist.
Put this into practice.
